Williams Architects Ltd. completed the pool facilities conditions report for the DeKalb Park District that led to the creation of a political action committee (PAC) and a $15 million referendum on a new water park for DeKalb.
Because of our experience with ReNew Our Schools PAC’s having obtained contributions from the architect and the bond company who would later benefit from District 428 school construction, it seems prudent to ask whether Williams Architects contributed to the Hopkins Pool Referendum Committee. So far, the Hopkins PAC doesn’t seem to have filed a Statement of Organization with the State Board of Elections; and even if it has/does, we may not see financial reports until July.
However, for whatever it’s worth, Williams has a contribution history.
Unless otherwise linked, information was obtained from the Illinois State Board of Elections and Williams Architects websites.
– Since 2002, Williams Architects of Carol Stream contributed over $5300 to Larson for Mayor, a PAC formed to elect Al Larson mayor of Schaumburg. Williams designed Schaumburg’s new Fire Station 1, which was completed in May 2006 and cost $2.1 million.
– Williams Architects contributed a total of $1500 in 2004 and 2005 to Citizens for Brian J. Krajewski, a former mayor of Downers Grove. In 2006, the Village of Downers Grove contracted with Williams for work on its Fire Station 2.
– Williams Architects has contributed to at least two referendum committees. It gave $5000 in 2002 to a PAC formed in support of a local park district referendum in Oswego. It contributed another $5000 to Friends of the Forest Preserves in Lake County in advance of a $185 million referendum in 2008.

Lastly I want to give a tip o’ the hat to Ivan Krpan, who found out what Morton, Illinois is doing with its aquatics facility for $4 million.

The Oswego referendum failed. The Forest Preserve referendum passed. The financial disclosure numbers are pretty amazing in that neither had much grassroots support, at least not financially.
The Oswego PAC, identified by the acronym P.A.R.K.S., submitted a final semi-annual report listing $34,750 in itemized contributions made by 12 contributors, which works out to an average contribution of $2845. It had $52.71 in non-itemized receipts. The Forest Preserve PAC’s semi-annual report covering the period of 7/1/2008 to 12/31/2008 had 48 individual itemized contributions totaling $172,000 for an average of $3583 per contributor, with unitemized receipts of $808.99.
