Thank you SO much for posting the reminder. There was a Girl Scout Troop out trying to raise money for a trip to Costa Rica in 2010 at the DAWC. They were out working hard!
The DAWC has a variety of items for sale inside.
I talked about the chimney. What they are aiming for on the chimney is an estimate and they would rather not put a claim in on the insurance. They have no idea how much it would cost to repair the chimney. The pieces are on the ground and those could be picked up at anytime without making a claim on the insurance.
Anna Marie will be around a lot working on the artwork for the Huskies on Parade. She will do a corn mosaic. That should be pretty cool.
Back to the Yard Sales, I made the rounds as far as Dixon. There is a church out there with volunteers who spent months preparing. They have a barn that they re-did as a place to sell things and they give the donations to needy people in the Dixon area. They had a carnival for kids, a firefighter teaching fire safety, a fun house, and a food tent. They participated last year with things to sell in the barn. This year, they had so much stuff my jaw dropped when I saw it.
Oh yeah, they have sign wars in Dixon, just like here. One of the participants in the Yard Sale at the church is running against someone in the city from Dixon in the November election so the police made a sweep and took down a bunch of directional signs.
Seriously, some people really need to take a chill pill on yard/garage sale signs. Most are only going to stay up two days or at most three days. If someone has permission to put up a sign on a property or the sign is on their property, they should be able to have it up for three days. Let them go for three days, then people should have to take them down. It is almost too expensive for people to have yard sales by the time the expenses add up.
