Whee-e-e!

Here’s an interesting YouTube video, U.S. home prices plotted on a roller coaster program. Be sure to put one eye on the lower right-hand corner, because the corresponding year flashes there. (yes, MOL behind where it says, “YouTube.” Oops.).

Keep in mind this ‘coaster was built last April. Housing inventory is still growing, prices still falling. Welcome to the conclusion of a dream world where, since the 1980s, “investment,” “speculation” and even “gambling” have come to mean the same thing; and where the cure for market ills has been to lower interest rates to prevent us from feeling pain. Trouble is, gangrene is now the source of the pain.

NIU Threat Alert

Message from NIU:

CAMPUS ALERT: POLICE INVESTIGATE ANONYMOUS THREAT IN RESIDENCE HALL

Details: NIU officials are investigating a threat posted late Saturday evening in a campus residence hall which included a racial slur and references to the Virginia Tech shootings.

Written in black ink on a restroom wall in the Grant Towers D complex were two separate entries claiming that “things will change most hastily” in the final days of the current semester. Read the rest of this entry

Our New Look

Actually, I goofed up the code in the sidebar template while trying to make some minor changes and haven’t figured out how to make it right yet. I can still read comments, though, so feel free. Hope to be back to normal soon.
